American Poetry

Manning G. Warren III

The AmericanPoetry.com name was reserved and site established to promote the development and accessibility of American poetry.

Poetry is one of the oldest forms of expression, celebrating the evolving triumph of knowledge over superstition, of civilization over barbarism, and of order over chaos. During the last quarter of the twentieth century, our American poetry was taken from our people, removed from the realm of everyday truth and beauty, captured by the academy and its literary theorists.

This site is dedicated to playing a constructive role in restoring freedom to poetry and to the poets who write poems for all of us.

Poetry, like classical music, belongs to all of us. Poetry, once liberated, should once again strengthen the development of our American civilization and deepen our understanding of ourselves. The vision of AmericanPoetry.com is to bring our poetry back home to us.

Our immediate plan is to provide a new medium through which American poets can share their poetry with visitors to this site, with readers whose lives are enriched by their appreciation of poetic truth. We will also publish verse created by the site’s founders, which we believe exemplifies the spirit of our efforts.  Manning Warren
